Summary: The book presents results of research of such eco-physiological adaptive reactions of mosses as constitutive protection and induced morphological and functional adaptations to the influence of stress factors on the technogenically changed areas of the Yaziv and Rozdil sulfur deposits, rock dumps of coal mines in the Chervonograd Industrial Coal-Mining Region, the Boryslav oil and gas condensate field, and the tailings storage of the Stebnyk Mining and Chemical Enterprise «Polymineral». Peculiarities of seasonal changes of the content and ratio of pigments, intensity of photosynthesis, maintenance of pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance, activity of components of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle and content of polyfunctional low-molecular-weight compounds depending on the intensity of light, water and temperature regime of localities have been established. The significance of the activation of the osmoregulation processes, the antioxidant defense system, functions of signaling molecules and epigenetic adaptations in the mosses resistance to extreme conditions of anthropogenically transformed environment was evaluated.

Reading audience: For scientists in branches of bryology, botany and ecology, teachers, students and postgraduate students of natural and biological specialties.
