Summary: The monograph summarizes the long-term experience of nature conservation assessment of the status of rare species of the flora of Ukraine in the context of the formation of the national Red Book and regional lists of species in need of protection at the local level. Various approaches to assessing the conservation status of species, determining the degree of their threat, etc., are analyzed. In addition, some recommendations for optimizing the structure and content of the Law of Ukraine «On the Red Book of Ukraine» in the context of the European experience in the formation of Red Books have been defined. Theoretical generalizations and applied proposals are illustrated by specific examples of the analysis of the status of protected species.
