Summary: The history of creation and stages of formation of the M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden are covered as a scientific institution of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The results of the development of scientific bases for the protection of floral diversity of the temperate zone of Eurasia ex situ are presented. The data on the development of scientific bases of landscape architecture in the NBG and optimization of urban and park phytocenoses and enrichment of dendroflora of Ukraine in the conditions of climate change are given. The consequences of research on plants of tropical biomes in the NBG are highlighted: the formation of a collection fund, ex situ preservation, prospects for use. The results of introduction and selection of flower-ornamental plants in NBG are shown. Important results of acclimatization and selection of new and non-traditional fruit plants in NBG are revealed. Fundamental and applied principles of introduction of useful plants in NBG and enrichment of cultural phytocenoses in Ukraine are covered. The results of research on biological-ecological and allelopathic principles of plant introduction are presented. The ecological and educational activity of the NBG is shown.
