Summary: The monograph presents a comparative-historical and semantic analysis of marriage divinations in the Ukrainian calendar-ritual tradition. The study is based on the source material (in particular, author’s field ethnographic research) and numerous published works. This ancient and integral component of traditional folk culture has been explored to reveal the actional, attributive, verbal levels of various mantic practices through which Ukrainian youth (mostly girls) usually tried to learn about their marital future. Additionally the author analyzed the worldview basis, typology, symbolism of ritual phenomena, outlined their ethnic features, ethnolocal features, etc.
