Summary: The study primarily examines approaches to defining and delineating the existence of the third sector, allowing for the substantiation of this phenomenon’s relevance to Ukrainian realities. It is established that the level of institutionalization of the non-governmental sector is indicative of its institutional capacity, the nature of which emanates from defining the sector's role and functions, thereby influencing its operational effectiveness. The content of institutional capacity is comprehensive and multifaceted, necessitating the isolation of measurable indicators, the aggregate of which fully characterizes the phenomenon.

Reading audience: This research is pertinent for scholars, representatives of governmental bodies, the non-governmental sector, and the broader civil society.
