Summary: In his book, the well-known Ukrainian historian conducts a comparative analysis of the life paths of V.K. Vinnichenko and S.V. Petliura — political and public figures who played an outstanding role in the fate of the Ukrainian people, the revival of the nation in 1917—1920. Both of them have been in the thick of revolutionary events and at the heights of national power, now getting closer, now finding themselves in different political camps: the stages of cooperation were replaced by irreconcilable ideological and political rivalry. The author examines the contribution of each to both statist and artistic and creative processes, and presents detailed characteristics of their personalities.
