Summary: The process of formation of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border through the prism of sociopolitical and military processes is characterized. The problems of formation of ethnic identity (self-identification) of the population of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border are investigated. The importance of the border in the daily practices of the inhabitants of the adjacent territories, the influence of socio-cultural, socio-political factors on Ukrainian-Belarusian relations are analyzed. The peculiarities of the transformation of the perception of the border after the restoration of Ukrainian and Belarusian statehood are pointed out. The importance of the cultural heritage of the border in the process of crystallization of national identity, modem interstate relations is proved.
