Summary: The guidebook provides an overview of the history of the Northwest Black Sea region during antiquity and the medieval periods, highlighting the natural and social changes that occurred in the area. It describes and illustrates the most renowned and significant sites of ancient and medieval cultural heritage, including underwater ones. The book also presents popular historical and archaeological tourism routes along the coast, spanning from the lower Danube to the lower Dnipro basin. The ancient cultural heritage and numerous remarkable archaeological artifacts discovered in the coastal areas and aquatic geo-ecosystems of the Northern Black Sea region should, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal, serve as key resources for the development of coastal tourism in Ukraine — one of the critical sectors of its current and future resource-efficient, competitive, and sustainable Blue Economy.

Reading audience: For recreational and tourism managers, students and schoolchildren, all residents and guests of our country, as well as Ukrainian and international travelers who are interested in the nature and ancient cultural heritage, including underwater, of the Black Sea coast — those who sincerely appreciate it but wish to learn more — believe that the expanses of the Ukrainian Black Sea coast, situated in the unique land-sea contact zone, have been, are and will continue to be among the most popular and sought-after recreational regions and coastal tourism destinations.
