Summary: The study guide presents material for the course of lectures «Radical reactions in the cell. Antioxidant protection» for students of higher education of the specialty 102 «Chemistry» at Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University. The presented material is aimed at familiarizing students with the theoretical foundations of free radical reactions in aerobic cells involving molecular oxygen and its active forms. The study guide consists of ten chapters, which discuss the main mechanisms of reactive oxygen species formation, methods of their detection and study, enzymatic and nonenzymatic components of the antioxidant defense of cells, biological effects, and chemical mechanisms of the action of reactive oxygen species on biomolecules. After each chapter, there are questions for self-control and references to the literature.

Reading audience: The study guide is recommended for undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students of chemical specialties of higher educational institutions. It may be useful in the training of specialists in medical and biological fields.
