Summary: The monograph highlights the process of spatial formation and development of settlement structures in the basin of the middle reaches of the Ikva River. Considerable attention is paid to the emergence and development of the urban centre of the microregion — the city of Dubno. Based on the level of information content of archaeological, written and cartographic sources, the peculiarities of the allocation and functioning of the main components of the urban organisation at different historical stages are analysed. It is proved that the city originated on a communal basis, and its constituent parts (citadel, outskirts, posad, suburbs) were formed in the period of Ancient Rus. The presence in the ХІІ—ХІІІ centuries of close socio-economic ties between Dubno and its feudalised neighbourhood is characterised. The layout, spatial, architectural and cultural features of the city in the era of the Ostroh princes and their heirs are considered. Particular attention is paid to the problems of the functioning of the castle, market, churches, monasteries, cemeteries, street grid, suburbs, defensive fortifications, and social topography. The spatial development of the city’s agricultural district is reconstructed. The work reflects the current stage of development of knowledge on this topic and summarises the author’s 12-year period of comprehensive archaeological and historical research.
