Summary: The monograph is devoted to the issue of obtaining the scientific basis for the creation of multifunctional nanoscale materials based on orthovanadates of rare earth elements for the needs of medicine, veterinary medicine and pharmacy. Problems related to the use of nanomaterials in the biomedical field are comprehensively analyzed. Peculiarities of the structure and mechanisms, which govern luminescent and redox properties of rare-earth orthovanadate nanocrystals have been studied. Features of creation of «inorganic nanocrystal — organic molecule» complexes for the efficient generation of reactive oxygen species are considered. A phenomenological approach to the creation of redox-active nanomaterials with controlled properties, in particular, pro- or antioxidant action, is proposed.
