Summary: The book examines female entrepreneurship in countries that are at different stages of transformation from centrally planned into market economies. The book presents recent research findings on women doing business in different transition environments and includes examples of more progressive countries in terms of market reforms (Slovenia and Lithuania), less fortunate states (Ukraine and Moldova), two Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan) with a peculiar historical background in terms of gender order and the specific case of East Germany. Based on original research the nature and extent of women entrepreneurship in post socialist countries are discussed along with the role of policy and institutional development in different national contexts.
