Summary: Th e collective monograph clarifi es the role of local self-government in the early XX century, during the First World War and the liberation struggle for independence (1918–1921). Th e state and reform of local self-government in Galicia in the interwar period of the XX century and the years of the Second World War are disclosed. Th e features of the development of local self-government in the western regions of Ukraine in the second half of the XX century are also discussed. Special attention is paid to the study of the role of local self-government aft er the restoration of independence, and especially the issue of its reform and functioning in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
